My Deepest Wounds

Life’s thorns have given you bruises

But my deepest wounds, are from the roses …

You’re afraid of strangers, but I was

ruined by my near and dear

You’re wary of thorns, but I was

wounded by roses, delicate and pure

You run away from the bees

terrified of their sting,

My heart has a heavy imprint

of the butterfly’s wing

You shield from the blazing sun

on your mind it plays a trick

My burns, though, are not

by the flame, but by the wick

When a thorn pricks your heart

It’s me who silently screams

Life’s thorns have given you bruises

But my deepest wounds, are from the roses!
