My Daughter
By Sharbori Bhattacharya
As a baby, you were as round as a ball;
Soft and sweet, and pretty as a doll.
The sounds you made, will never fade.
My dear, in my memories, they are still quite clear.
My beautiful princess,
At times, you’re very careless.
With your soft, shiny locks of hair,
And milky white skin so fair,
You are my lovable, little Teddy Bear.
With your tiny, little hands,
When you hold my hand,
I feel…I am in God’s land!
You are fun to be with,
You are boring at times.
You are naughty too,
And very cute sometimes.
When you’re tired, you act quite weird…
You are lazy, and want to be cozy,
In your room,
Your own cocoon.
At times, I really fail to understand the things that you do…
Your stubborn ways, your silly says and your funny ways,
Bring joy to my lonely days…
Your innocence is like the bright sun’s rays!
The sweet things you say…make my day!
You have made me so busy,
That at times, I become lousy.
When we have a rift,
I forget that you are god’s gift!
Many a nasty word flows….along with a few blows.
You are obedient and patient, truthful and innocent,
and have always been a brilliantly good student.
I shall bring out your talents,
And not let them lie latent….
When you dance, you get into a trance.
I get mesmerized and memorize all your moves…
When I see you on stage, my tears begin to flow,
And wash away many a life’s blow.
You love your school,
Wherein with your friends you fool…
That’s your way of remaining cool..
