My Child's Child

By Aayushi

“Dad! You are a superman,” 10-year old Rahul said.

Dad laughed out loudly.

“I am serious Dad, How come you know everything?” he further asked.

“My child, I try to answer as best I can. When you grow older you will not need me”, he said.

“No Dad! I will always need you.” Rahul replied and hugged his dad.

Rahul’s words echo in Dad’s heart. He looked at the dark sky and said:

“Dear son, nothing remains the same except the vast sky. It has been 25 years since you died while saving your superman from a terrorist’s gunshot. You were wrong about one thing. This time I need you. Please come back.” Dad said and cried hard.

Just then, 10-year old Rahul pulled Dad’s kurta and asked..

“Grandpa! You promised me that my Dad will come to meet me on my birthday. Hooray! The day has arrived. I have brought a cake for him. Where is he?” he asked excitedly.

“Look there, a bright star shining in the sky. He is your father, your superman! Grandpa answered and hugged him tightly trying to hide his tears.

That day an old father found a son in his little grandson.
