My Blind World
By Anupam Jaina
I wish I could see the light,
To feel free, to feel alive.
But I am unfortunate to have sight taken away from me,
Fortunate to have you, to see for me.
Oh, the mockery and pranks of the insensitive do not bother me, Their naive acts make me pity them, not me.
I am content to live with the darkness, to not be afraid of it like everyone else, To appreciate and embrace it's haunting beauty, ignored by everyone else.
But I have you;
I do have you, don’t I?
You are my sun, my moon, my stars,
You make me feel welcome to the world.
The only time I truly consider myself hardly done by,
Is when I remember your perfect beauty,
And I wish I could see you once before going back to the dark, To see your smile for a change, than just feel it,
To see you happy, while you’re beaming at me.
Being blind has helped me to imagine a bit more,
To remorse even more.
But then you turn my world upside down,
And I feel like telling the world I would come for you,
To take you away from this unfaithful world,
With determined love, and I’ll ride you to infinity, on the back of my horse.
But all this is virtual of course,
And I see you all the time in my virtual world.
I don’t need sight to see the world,
I have you to see it for me,
To fill it with the colours of your compassion and love,
To make it just so beautiful for me.
