Murky Woods

She peeled the skin off her lips,

She bit and dug her teeth into the soft pink skin,

She ran her tongue across the dry rim.

She was wandering between the tall trees,

The mist engulfed her body,

Everything seemed blurry,

Her eyes seeking somebody.

She stroked her dark hair,

She gently rubbed one palm against another,

Her skin tingled when it felt the cold air,

Her feet felt like they were sinking.

She touched the wide rings on a tree trunk,

Tracing her fingers down the lines,

Before her fingers brushed against her cheeks,

Her frame tangled in the vines.

Her footprints on the damp mud disappeared,

She couldn't bring herself to look back,

She dragged her feet towards the thicker murk,

The pieces she tried to find slipped off the track.
