MORE THAN THE SCRAPS

Discrimination and Segregation,

Lowering a person's self-esteem by their pigmentation

Built into the American system, blind to the rich and white, but clear to the Black people in poverty and despair.

Schools, poorly funded.

Workplace, you are treated badly.

But the oppressed grow stronger under

white supremacy and cruel leadership.

Genocide in the night. Fountains colorized.

You say you follow in the Word of The Lord,

but it is obvious your God is different than mine.

God created all men in his image, with unique characteristics.

The words on paper speak of equality and fairness.

But the truth is seen in actions, and the actions are faulty and disappointing. The innocent minds of children are unknowing of the dangers ahead.

Dreams stay as dreams, wishes never come true.

Living in this world is not for the weak and fragile souls.

The minds of our people, tampered with. Ideas--stolen.

Lewis Howard Latimer’s ideas -stolen, Granville T. Woods’ ideas-stolen Skin colour does not and never defines genius.

The white man lay stuck in the fallacy of his own words.

They label us lazy, yet they have not a culture of their own. With such hypocrisy and bare delusion,

They bask in our successes from generation to generation.

The dances-they stole; the music-they stole,

the food and culture-they stole.

Even our identity-they stole.

Even as the sun shines upon them, they continue to steal shamelessly

A thin string of our culture that hangs down is all our people hold on to, tearing ever so slightly still, breaking our identity, slowly. We are people, we are proud,

and we are worth more than the scraps we’re thrown.
