Moonlit

Was the moon even special

When it borrowed the sun's light?

It wouldn't have made space in my memory

If it didn't glow tonight

To make our waves dance to its tune

What wonder has it spun?

While other planets had several moons

The earth only cares for one

At a distance

Stood a lone star

It admires the moon like an unrequited lover

Glowing quietly, alone and afar

Though just a ball of rock

An unreal charm it holds

No life, no breath

Yet millions of hearts it folds

No matter where the night takes me

The moon always follows

Each footstep rejoices at its company

And the soul softly mellows

Just like the seasons of life

The moon has its phases

Under its warm embrace

It lights my darkest places

Standing still among the floating clouds

Its half face makes me complete

All I can do is stand and stare

While the cold ground kisses my feet

Such serene its presence

Shining amidst the dark so bright

Revealing only some of itself

The rest, hidden beneath the inky coat of night
