Moonlight over Bankot

It was before dawn, when we reached there,

To enjoy a bonfire and horror stories.

But after a few fictions, came a real one,

The story of the death of the commander's wife.

The fire burned deep orange, with a hint of blue,

Sparks flew everywhere, some landed, some vanished in the air.

The death of the wife whose body was rowed away in a boat,

Just near the sea, skirting the fort.

The fort was big, the fire running out,

We went to look for a well, guided by moonlight.

It was as wide as a house, deep as a valley,

Just looking in it, my life flashed before my eyes.

And behind us, the moon shone bright,

Reflecting on the sea, a picture painted on water's path.

The radiance of the moon, and the tale of death,

Hauntingly beautiful, a memory to treasure from the brim of the fort.
