Mirror Of Erised
By Gurpahul Singh
In a great castle, I strolled
In a hall where moonlight shed,
And in front, there it stood
The Mirror of Erised.
I knew it won’t just show
Whatever it is one requires,
But as the old man said,
“Only our deepest, desperate desires.”
I thought it would reflect me
With a brilliant degree in hand,
Or maybe one of those wands
To rule all sea and sand.
The Philosopher’s Stone, why not
Or just a bag full of gold,
Or my name’s on every tongue
By the time I get too old.
But do you know whom I see, my love?
It’s you, how beautiful, so fine,
With that lovely gaze at me
And your hand held firmly in mine.
Your smile, it’s gentle, it’s shy
In sorrow, my heart did drown,
While your eyes, they spoke of love
My tears they quietly rolled down.
Last lie you told me, dear,
Was that, for sure, you would,
Love me for a thousand years,
And for a thousand years, there I stood...
