Miles For Minutes – Zuhayr Hatia

No one talks about how hard it is,

meeting for the first time with hearts beating fast.

To be with each other for fifteen minutes,

not knowing it would be the last.

No one talks about how hard it is,

to return to your city, stuck behind a screen,

waiting for each other's text bubbles,

only for it to end with "last seen..."

No one talks about how hard it is,

wishing to be in the same city, with never enough time.

To wish we could stay longer,

as if five more minutes was a crime.

Now, when I think of your city, I don't just see a place,

I hear your voice; I see your face.

Your city is not just your home, it's mine.

A sixteen-hour drive away, which I'd drive,

just for five minutes of your time.

One day, when the distance grows short,

and we're finally on our own,

I'll hold you in my arms,

in the same city, in the same home.
