Mercifully, Darkness

To the rhythms of their heartbeats

They had danced once where he now laid abandoned

Wearing her shadow for company

He embraced what was left of their broken hearts

He saw distorted images of her laughter

Got intoxicated with her concocted thoughts

He played with her hair

Right before it fell on her shoulder

Made love to her eclipsed self

He resented. Being in the light

For it reminded him too much

Of her. Oh, how she shimmered in the sun

He felt depleted. Unworthy

He craved an escape

From this tormenting despair

He ran. To the gloomiest of the corners

Mercifully, darkness. Mumbled and collapsed.
