Memories
By Smita Mahto
Time cannot steal the treasure
we carry in our hearts
The treasure chest has a lock
And, memories are its key.
When you open it someday
You'll find some tears, some longings
few unsaid words
And, regret and pain saddle
At the bottom.
And you'll realize
What, once you find
Trinket of the present,
Is now,
Treasure of the past.
Memories are so strange
They give you happiness and pain
The only thing that could last forever
And could travel miles to reach you howsoever.
Everything around you can change
But memories remain the same
They're the only thing you ever want to share
It grows sweeter with the passing of years.
Memories are the dried love,
And the smell of the withered rose as Remembrance,
Memories are the picture frame
And return ticket to the moments
Gone.
Memories are the poems she wrote
And knitting the stories she once had
Dreamt.
We miss the loving embrace of arms,
Or those voices we knew so well
Or that presence of breath you know for so long
And, whose smile is dear to you of all.
Today when the memories are just in
the facebook posts,
Your memories are intact in my heart
like an open book filled with
stories from the past.
You're my treasured memory
And you'll always be.
