Memoirs Of A Lost War

I stand alone with an urn in my hands,

Holding the ashes of dreams we once had.

I glance back to the day I waged the war.

Trying to wrap my head around the fact that I’ve lost, I stand still.

Looking but not seeing, knowing but not feeling.

Oh! How surreal it all feels,

A lot like a nightmare from long ago.

Our dreams changed and took opposing directions,

Only to have come to a crossroad again.

Although different from what we initially had,

We still share an identic desire.

A toxic desire to keep our hearts safe.

Yet, I stand and wait.

Awaiting another fatal rendezvous.
