Memoir
By Rebecca Dominique Hawkes
With the flow of nature,
We forget
The woman who dies
The pain that subsides
The masterpiece of art
Or the mouth of a defaming dart.
With the passing of nature,
She forgets
Her wounded heart,
Those who depart,
Despondency-
The air of melancholy.
With the passing of night,
He forgets,
The tears he wept,
The anger he kept,
Fancy delusions,
Of a make believe illusion.
With the passing of years,
I remember,
My solitary fight,
Darkness turned bright.
The fondness I missed
Turned to loneliness I kissed.
I will remember,
Fullfilled promises,
Better choices,
Crooked contortions
To masterful devotions.
I will remember,
You...
Our gifted talk,
Of life's walk,
My niche of unsorted thoughts,
Bound in you - the treasure chest I sought.
The past is no longer
My shelter
But a broken border,
Of a fearful encumber.
The stake that pierced me,
Or the blood rag that bandaged me,
Is no longer,
My source of pain,
But rather mundane.
In a world
I choose to remember
Or choose to obliviate.
