Oh, my love.
Your beauty was spoken of across the lands.
You were so desperately desired.
When he saw you in your youth, he couldn’t resist.
He stole you away and shredded your cloth
Because, indeed, boys will be boys.
In the Temple of Athena he hurt you:
He raped and ravaged your
Body and once-glittering soul.
When the goddess heard your tale,
He was not punished, but instead you
Because, indeed, boys will be boys.
She struck you down and claimed your body;
Those that once looked upon thy elegance
Could look nevermore.
Oh, my love.
Your beauty was spoken of across the lands.
You were so calamitously desired.
Because of their selfishness your body belongs to them.
They own you, heart and soul,
And you can do nothing but obey.
Now you crumble
Because only the blind
Could love one so hideously deadly.
Oh, my love: the mighty mournful Medusa.
Show no mercy – speak your truth.
Watch them harden to stone and crumble at your feet.

It’s unfortunate that the #metoo movement is also a tale as old as time. Well done!

The repetition hits hard
This poem offers a powerful and haunting retelling of Medusa’s story, capturing both her suffering and her righteous strength. The repetition and direct address create an emotional closeness, while the vivid imagery highlights the injustice she endured and the fierce resilience she ultimately embodies. It’s a bold, evocative piece that transforms tragedy into empowerment.
Big fan of this one!!
