Me and You

Looking at the stars

Tonight feels so cold

Rough grass beneath me

Prickling blades itch my skin

In clothes from the day before

I finally feel something again

“What does it all mean?”

Six months down the drain

Mom says good riddance

Dad doesn’t say anything

Neither approved anyway

Said it was “a choice”

A phase I will get through

That’s not how it works…

I roll on my side

I try to breathe steady

They don’t know me like she did

With her I was free

We laughed until 3am

We shared the parts unseen

I miss her

But we were not meant to be.

Dancing at the nightclub

I couldn’t feel better

Bodies grinding against me

I try my best not to think

The alcohol pumping through me

I smile in euphoria

My friend whispers in my ear

“Cute girl at the bar.”

I turn to look over

And she comes up to me

I think I’m ready?

She asks, “your place?”

Fuck

I can’t do this

I run outside

I try to breathe steady

“How could I do this?”

With her I could be me

I made jokes and she laughed

With her it was easy

I miss her

But we were not meant to be.
