Mama

Mama,

The altar is crimsoned by sin.

My wild nails clawed at the floor;

scars spread like fangs across my skin-

it is not my body anymore.

Mama,

he disappeared, yet his shadow lingers.

My gaze condemned to be serpentine.

I pray this place is burned to embers-

was it truly ever a shrine?

Mama,

his venom smouldered my chastity

yet my goddess breathed no word.

I stand denounced for desecrating the sanctity

of a temple where my voice was never heard.

Mama,

in a cavern where sunlight could never reach,

where every intruder falters in a daze,

an owl tolls a chilling screech-

a death knell for those who met my gaze.

Mama,

before desolation devoured me whole,

I was decapitated, my gaze weaponized,

The goddess I guarded with my soul,

watched my persecution with cold eyes.

Mama,

why did I watch the stars with such naivety

when there are no fireflies to pierce the dark?

When innocence burns to cinders eventually,

the world beyond is brutal and stark.
