Love, Pain and Longing

Love is a fire that burns so bright,

A flame that flickers in the night.

It warms the heart, soothes the soul,

And makes us feel alive and whole.

But with love comes pain, a bitter sting,

A hurt that makes our hearts take wing.

It gnaws and eats away inside,

And leaves us feeling lost and tired.

And when love leaves, it leaves a void,

A space inside that can't be destroyed.

A longing for what once was there,

A yearning for love is so rare.

We long for what we cannot have,

A love that we can never grasp.

And yet we dream and hope and pray,

That love will come and stay one day.

So love, pain, and longing are one,

A trinity that can't be undone.

For where there's love, there's pain and need,

And longing is the heart's deep seed.
