Lost In A Paracosm
By Maya Afonso
drifting, in an endless void,
falling with no direction.
here empty space beckons,
and who am I to resist her call?
walking through a field of flowers.
bruised anemone fill this field,
their petals purple with faded hope.
slow winds cause mindless leaves to rustle,
I trip, and the earth watches me fall.
my eyes open to fire,
dragons regal in the skies,
fae mischievous in their forests.
my eyes however, do not widen in hope;
I have learnt to know better.
in a blink I am elsewhere
in lands of chemicals and curiosity,
of coats, labs and questions,
it is here where truth dictates,
and in her realm I am not welcome.
in voids I lie again,
knowing of an escape,
yet motionless I drift
for every escape I seek,
I am lost once again,
in a paracosm of my own making.
