Losing You Too Soon
By Anindita Das
Just a day ago you spoke to me
Shared a good news that graced your life anew
You seemed to be all healthy and content
Waiting to start a new chapter, a phase entirely new
Was eagerly waiting to meet you
Counting days when you would move to my city
The day you told me about this plan
Is when I started to plan our meet in a jiffy
Reminiscing the days of our school together
Your incessant talks; the never-ending conversation
The way you always were charged up; cheerful
Is what I'm going to miss the most in this situation
The time spent with each other’s families
The moments that are still etched in my mind
How you never changed over the years
A little naughty, a little whacky, but a lot kind
As I sit speechless today, in utter disbelief
That your living journey ended too soon
How I wish we had more time; a little more
To see you smiling again; to spend an afternoon
You left a mourning family, bereaving friends
And many more who loved you
Life seems so unfair, so cruel, so brutal
As the memories with you were limited to just a few
As I try to be calm, try to fathom that you are gone
A part of me wants to believe it is all a lie
A soul departed too soon; a life half lived
I can only feel the pain, can only ask…WHY?
