Look at me, I am woman

Look at me, I am woman

An enigma, if you want me to be

Lay down your preferences, shame me for my own

desires

For I am but a woman

created to do what she is told

Reduced to submission because I was made to serve and

Give and nurture and dote on and pour into and feed and share and

Relinquish all control of my body because he is my husband

And I, the good wife, don my frock of meekness to do my wifely duty

And smile, because I am just a woman.

Look at me, I am daughter

I have studied society for years

I have society provide my brother with excuses

Whilst I am presented with protection

My sleepwear too revealing

My skirt too enticing

My smile too suggestive

And so I adjust to please

And as I grow, I’ve internalised that I too

am just a woman

and nothing more.
