Longing And Belonging
By Anwesha Nandi
I stood there, square
Intently looking at you.
Wishing secretly, shamelessly
That you would look too.
You walked away unbothered
I walked behind unwavered.
Lost my way,
I drifted very far.
For I believed,
You are my North Star.
Your world was new,
My experiences here were few.
I was amazed, I was amused,
Also I would trip and fall.
Creepy stalker, hopeless lover
For you I would be that all.
Greeted by flowers,
Kissed by butterflies,
I swayed with the bamboos.
Smeared by earth,
Drenched by streams,
I sang with the cuckoos.
They welcomed me in,
With a peaceful, calming grin.
Dancing along with them
Apparently, was never a sin.
I had lost account of this time.
I knew not the last time,
So happy I had been.
Did they belong to me?
Or were they whom
I always belonged to?
Why is this newness so familiar?
Was I always meant to be here?
Entranced and enchanted
And an unexpected wish granted
I forgot, why I was here.
A longing to be with you,
An infatuation I held on to,
Now I wanted to be clear.
Stopped in your tracks
You turned back,
Your eyes met mine.
Fumbles, apologies, awkwardness
And a proposal later,
I left with your humble decline.
I will travel back,
But no more to
Look for you.
Your secretive world
Is now equally mine.
I will regularly come and
Stay here sometimes
Maybe for a quick quarantine.
For bringing me here,
Walking me through a door,
Into a world
I knew nothing of before.
For unknowingly showing a new goal,
Oh beautiful soul
It’s you,
I will be
Eternally thankful to.
