Lonely Guitar
By Kirtiman Hazarika
You tug and play at my heart strings.
These joyous words that my soul sings,
They ring out loud in the flightless night,
To witness wonder at your sight.
I ache to be your lonely guitar,
To kiss your fingers, to weep afar,
My tunes I pray to haunt and keep,
Your ears to serenade to sleep.
And while I slowly gather dust,
I eke a wish upon to trust,
My hopes, my dreams, my shattered screams,
To meld a melody of moonbeams.
I never was blessed by your caress,
And yet I sing in silence to confess,
To play my dirge into a memoir,
To beg, “Won’t you touch, this lonely guitar?”
