Little Verses

Once a story was told,

about a child with a kind soul,

she was small,

she liked her pink shawl,

quite picky about her snack bowl,

a dream is all she holds,

to once be brave and bold.

In class, she learned the silent rules,

the social etiquette of all the schools,

of what’s expected, as her mind would peek,

to read, to write, to listen and speak.

She faced challenges day and night,

academic, sport, interest alike,

a constant plea, a constant fear,

she never once realized,

that doubt was just a whisper,

whose only sound was fear.

Fear is real, a silent threat,

that haunts our sleep,

and makes us afraid,

to speak, to stand,

to take a chance,

bound by the quiet chain,

limiting all we are and all we can,

a stolen talent, an artisan.

And so dear friends,

listen to your heart,

we all have our own unique art,

choose your fighter,

the lover, or a burning fire,

for what you truly desire,

is all that inspires.

Once I had a friend,

a small blue bird,

who lives at the end,

of our branch rose,

she sings happy songs,

sweetly chirped hello,

have a nest up in a tree,

so cozy for all to see.

One day,

her chirp was no more,

it’s sad I know but sweet also,

for that small friend of mine,

wings soar on above the pine,

a pretty blue speck,

in the sky nightline.

And so I know,

deep inside my heart,

my runway and my life will start,

I too can be a designer,

moving forward, brave and sure,

for my bells now ring a hopeful sound,

on this beautiful and chosen ground.

With that in mind,

for all the rules the world demands,

the laws may bind and hold you still,

but nothing matches once a spirit stands,

and simply says the words “I will”.
