Like the Crack of Dawn

It happens quiet, without a sound,

Like fragments of light spilling all around.

Not often seen, but when it shows,

The dullest hour gently glows.

Lighting up the whole room

Like moonlight in it’s full bloom,

Soft and silver, calm and bright,

Chasing the shadows with its light.

It hides behind his stern gaze,

Appearing on the rarest of all days.

Not something found in every crowd-

Light, not showy, never loud.

And once it stirs into a laugh,

A spark is shared on its behalf.

So warm, so real, it sweeps the air,

Like sunlight spilled without a sound,

A joy my heart alone can’t hold.

You almost miss it, if you blink,

It’s not as near as you might think.

And when it comes, it doesn’t stay,

It lights my soul, then slips away.

But oh, the warmth it leaves behind

Like golden threads through my weary mind.

So I hold it close, though it is brief,

This quiet joy, its soft relief.

For in its touch, my heart is drawn-

To feel again...

Like the crack of dawn.
