What do you think about Indian educational system? Is that adequate to achieve the goals of education? Why should we still cling on to the garbage education system imposed on us by the British people?
It was their need to spoil our culture and execute their rules here. So they brought forward such a rubbish system and we are still following the same intact.
We had a great system of education which was perfect for each student, the Gurukula system. Why can’t we restore this system? We can implement the great Gurukula tradition again by modernizing it according to the needs of present day.
Current system of education is inadequate to cater the needs of children. Each child is unique in their talents and potential. Then how can a single curriculum help us to mould individuals with entirely different talents? It sounds ridiculous. We must check their interests and aptitude and then provide opportunities accordingly.
Every child must get a basic knowledge in Mathematics, Environmental science, Social science, Constitution etc. Psychology should be added to the curriculum. Sanskrit, Hindi and mother tongue should be learnt in detail. English must be taught as a foreign language which is only required to communicate in oral and written forms. More importance should be given to arts, sports, yoga, physical education and martial arts. Moral values should be cultivated in each child from beginning itself. They must get sufficient time to play. Rather than mugging up new things, they should get enough opportunity for self-expression.
Vocational training must be given. They must have a clear idea about their future. Their genuine talents must be developed in such a way that they should not have any confusions about the careers they have to choose. They must be brought up as responsible individuals, to themselves, to their family, to their society and to the country. They must be grown up as a global citizen.
Teaching must become a highly paid job. Our culture places Guru before God. But how the teachers are treated in the current system? It should change.
School should be like an Ashram, simple and nature friendly. Students and teachers should stay there. They should take part in all the activities such as cleaning, cooking, gardening etc. The school has to be like their own home. A healthy relationship should be there among parents, teachers and students. Parents should visit the school often and be a part of the activities there. They can acknowledge the progress of their child.
Our current educational system has produced a lot of worthy individuals. It is a fact. But imagine if a useless system could produce this much talents, what would be the result a need based, talent based education system can provide. It is high time we change the whole system of our education. Let us be the harbingers.
