Let’s blow away slavery

By S Gokul Kumar

Let’s discuss a topic which is most important in society but least spoken among people. Do we still have the practice of slavery in our society?

Slavery in general is usually viewed from myopic perspective but, it is wider than what we all think. Interestingly, we all can play a major role in abolishing this phenomenon. But before thinking on what ought to be done to do away with this, it is important to know where it actually exists. Surprisingly, it exists within us.

Yeah! We all are enslaved to egoism. Similar to what slavery restricts, ego can be detrimental to man’s life. We all live as scapegoats to our non-existent master (ego) which restricts our well-being.

We know that slavery which existed in traditional societies restricted a person from all his entitlements including economic, social, political, etc. Egoism in the same way restricts all our opportunities. This is because, a person who practices egoism generally creates an artificial barrier which pushes all his associates away from him thus leading to isolation which acts as source for fear and violence on the world outside.

Though it is universal that we all have problems more than what we can bear, it becomes difficult to overcome the problems for the person who carries ego. A man becomes successful only when he is open to all the ideas and constructive criticisms from the people around him. Some construe ego as their protective tool, but actually it spoils the inner peace.

I started my part to blow away this phenomenon a long time ago. Now it’s your turn to make a change.

Spread love and share happiness.
