Lest In My Dreams

By Sarita Shubhadarshini

If I can't have you, lest in my dreams you live!

I can't linger falling asleep every night,

To dream of you is my sweetest sight.

How you emerge from the white light,

How the windy messy hair flies quiet!

As you walk thru the aisle of wood,

You look afresh as drenched leaves would.

Like white flower* would greet the morning sun,

You meet me with that awkward smile, so fun.

With your gentleman's jacket, an offering to me,

We share a typical age old romance with snowy tea.

How you laugh at my lame jokes to keep my heart,

And we march on talking thousand tales,

a timeless art.

How a subtle sphere of just me and you,

Transcends into crowd of few!

The elements of nature, favoured by birds and trees,

Accompany us with dwindling drills.

As the wehrmacht advances in the chills,

I awaken to reality, the sweet dream of mine seals.

I wake up to see the melancholy, millions marred,

Like a bereft swan floating in the freezed fountain of dead lovers, scared.

While I read the last letter of yours,

'“If only we could be together soon dear, I’d give anything to be back to you,”

I passionately wait for the letter that says,

"I am finally coming back to you, as promised. The terrible war is over!"
