Law Of Nature
By Rupinder Bains
Peeking
The sun rises over the horizon
The faint light
Washing away the darkness of night.
The rustling of nocturnes retreating
The waking call of aves;
It seems the earth loves the sun
And all its brightness.
Birds chirrup in praise of its arrival
Flowers sprout for greeting
The dew drops evaporate
In an everlasting effort to reach the Sol;
Just like Icarus,
They too will fail.
The ocean catches their fall
Its embrace comforting like a mother,
Each wave a gentle hug
Lapping at the shore,
Saying hello to the dirt
Seeping down to their kin
With promises to return.
They have a journey to make.
An intrusion.
Noon time-
A human lying in the grass
The sky clear and cloudy
It lies there
Looking for patterns
To recognize and make sense of nature’s existence
It will fail.
There is no meaning.
A breeze blows
Rustling everything it passes
A quick bow of its hat
Always in a hurry!
It turns the meadow to an ocean
Vivid with the hues of green
My favourite colour.
The grass soft
And softer still,
In the mouths of the cattle grazing it
It has a journey to make
Through food pipes and intestines
But it too,
Comes back
To nurture its own
And be ripped out again.
The sun is setting now
It paints the sky yellow orange and lilac.
The earth protests with chirrups and wilting;
The honest workers stop their activities in rebellion.
It won’t do.
The sun too has a journey to make
For it loves the moon
Forever trying to reach it
The sun too will fail.
The balance has to be maintained.
It will die of longing,
And the earth will die
With sorrow of the sun’s demise.
It is futile.
The only thing you can do is enjoy it-
The sunrises,
The chirping of birds and the lapping of waters,
The whoosh of winds and the crunch of grass under your feet.
You won’t be bored
There is much beauty in life
And more in death.
