Labrynth
By Niyah Jacob
I paced up and down the never-ending corridors
The walls were bare, dry, cold.
I went from room to room, door to door,
and yet
I always ended up back where I started.
In a room surrounded by doors on all sides.
Heaving a sigh, I sank to the floor
I wiped away my tears.
If only they could see me now.
They called me a monster after all.
The gods had forsaken me.
They created me and cursed me with my temperament,
Only to punish me for my existence,
Which I am to while away in this crypt
Alone, and starving.
Master sends me food once in a while.
Some youths and some maids.
Master named me his.
Minos' Taurus. Minotaurus. Minotaur.
"Monster."
I look up to see a silhouette in the doorway.
"Who are you? How did you get here?"
"I've come to put an end to your misery. I was sent by your sister. I am Theseus."
Ariadne. After all these years.
He takes me by surprise as I sit there, dumbfounded by her betrayal.
My vision blurs, as I slowly bleed to my death.
I wonder if the god of the underworld is any kinder than the rest.
