Ko Ri Khasi

By Idonlakador Kharlor

Ko Ri Khasi,Ko Ri Khasi,

Kum pha ngan shem haei;

Ki lum ki wah,ki lyer suhsieng;

Jingitynnad ha pha ka shlei.

Katba nang mih ki sngi ki snem,

Jinglong tynrai ki sdang jah rngai;

Ka jong kiwei ngi bud tynneng,

Ia la ki khmat shaei ngin phai?

Ka ktien,thylliej,akor,burom,

Ka Ri,ngim iohi shuh;

Ka ktien nongwei ngi sngew sarong,

Ka Ri kan iap ngim shym sngewthuh.

Ka riam,ka beit,riti, dustur

Ka Ri,ngim kwah bud shuh;

Shaphrang ngi iaid,shaphrang ngi tur,

Jong kiwei ngi sngewjuh.

Ko Ri Khasi,Ko Ri Khasi,

Katno mynsiem ka kthang;

Ko Ri tipbriew,ko Ri tipblei,

Ah! Wat leit noh na sla pyrthei.

TRANSLATIONS

The first stanza of the poem talks about the beauty of the khasi land,the gentle breezes that blows,the mountains and the rivers flowing

The second stanza talks about how as years passes by,the culture and traditional way of living started to extinct , we started to follow other people lifestyle , traditions and who do we blame for the cause of such extinction.

The third stanza talks about the lost of decency and respect who we were once known,dying of the khasi language and dialects because we are neglecting and being ignorant which will eventually lead to the lost of existence of the khasi tribe

The fourth stanza talks about how the khasi people who were once known for their simplicity have lost it today in all spheres of life,from the way we dress, the way we talk and the overall behaviour is becoming reckless

The fifth stanza talks about the pain I felt in my heart watching and observing the reckless behaviour of people and I’m pleading that we realize as soon as possible or else our good name and reputation,a section of the population who were once known to be God-fearing will totally be wiped out from this earth
