Know your Smart

Smart, smart, smart

The more I say it

The more foreign it feels

Too smart for school

But not enough for the world

Too smart for colloquial conversations

But not enough for intellectual inspiration

Smart, smart, smart

But what is smart?

Is it my efficiency in maths?

Or the wisdom of a saint?

Is isn't the knowledge of facts?

Or the knowledge for peace?

Because identifying yourself with a word is not enough

And then the world decides to take it away from you

And scrutinises you, laughing, questioning why little girl?

You ask inside, why label yourself?

Even more, with something you never

But that's what people called you

And now my head begins to hurt

For memories, contradicting compliments and pitiful smiles

Rewind in my head

To play a movie of ignorance

And darling of course you believed them

Naivety nourished your will but poisoned your eyes

But I've built my immunity on hope

And my eyes can see clearer now

The blurred lens is now contrasted

Though it is only zoomed in

But that's okay for now

For rust can reveal a shine

And one day I will
