Knight In The Shining Armour
By Samriddhi Gogoi
Rescued by an unconventional knight in shining armour,
An unlikely candidate, against the odds,
Returning but a simple favour.
Salty teardrops running down like confetti
Sweat dripping through the crevices of their warm embrace,
All in honour of her finally being brought to the centre stage,
Everything else and every being ceasing to matter, all petty.
Far from the maddening crowd,
Swept off her feet, by a love fitting for movie screens.
For the windings of the age-old lock,
Finally, a match was found.
Every step ever taken, every race ever run, Leading to this climax of a moment
All grudges, begrudgingly, dusted and done.
Been walking on eggshells for a while,
Tending those wounds running deep,
Pigeonholed by trauma and grief,
But now, all shackles being melted by the warmth emanating,
From this whirlwind of a romance.
All reasoning thrown out of caution,
All in favour of a kinship, only felt and sensed.
Realising every wish ever blown into a dandelion,
Oh, the wish fairies had never, as much danced!
Not young, but in love,
Viewing the world through a rose-coloured glass.
Greyed hair peeping,
Even wrinkles must surely be setting in.
But that night, she was carefree like she'd never been even in her teens,
As realisation hard hit that she needed no more saving,
That her knight in shining armour, had been her all along, without her knowing.
