It wasn't anything he did

Original Submission by Melissa Farrell

It wasn’t anything he did

It wasn’t the words he wrote

That told her how he felt.

It wasn’t the touch of his lips

Each time he gave her a kiss.

It wasn’t his arms that held her tight,

In the middle of a raging fight.

It wasn’t the calm words he whispered in her ears

To try to allay all of her worst fears.

It wasn’t his smile from across the room,

That had the power to chase away her gloom.

It wasn’t that he knew to begin

By ever so gently caressing her skin.

It wasn’t each soul-searing look,

It wasn’t in each breath he took.

It wasn’t in his laughter that filled the air,

Or the way he ran his fingers through her hair.

It wasn’t when he stole her heart,

And promised to protect it from ever falling apart.

It wasn’t when he held her hand

As, together, they walked through the sand.

It wasn’t any of these things

That gave their love its beautiful wings.

It was all those pieces put together,

That proved how much he really loved her.
