It Was Not Enough!

I learned the alphabets and gained the ability to count

But the world said it was not enough!

I connected words and wielded its magic

But the world said it was not enough!

I competed in exams and exhausted my pen

But the world said it was not enough!

I debated with wisdom and won the quarrel

But the world said it was not enough!

I looted the world of all its knowledge

But the world said it was not enough!

At last, I realised the fool I was.

At last, I realised the fatuity of my actions.

For at last, I realised the unsatiable hunger of man

And so, I did one last thing,

I read a book and revelled in my own gain

Turning deaf to what others said.

Finally, it was enough.
