It's Good
By Adithi Banerjee Tarafdar
It’s good we parted ways
We weren’t meant
To be together
Differences, all of them
Would have driven us apart
Eventually.
Good, we said our good byes
Till we meet again, you said.
I didn't agree to that though
Didn't wish to see you ever again
No, it ain’t my anger
Doing the talking but pain
That I couldn’t handle
When you disappeared
From my life
Not days not month’s
It took me years
To build myself again
Had to stop myself
From obsessing over you
Every second of every second
Had to love me a wee bit more
The turmoil within
Wasn't allowing me
To become what
I was destined for
I was shattered, broken, crushed
How funny, they say
Time heals all
But time didn’t sooth me
Made my wounds run deeper
Made my wounds all the more tender
When will this pain end?
I often wondered
Saw no end to the same
But now all of a sudden
I found peace
We parted ways
No, not suddenly though
This phase was meant to arrive
Sooner or later
We weren’t meant
To be together.
So now, I can start again
Where many moons ago I stopped
Blocked myself from moving forward
No, I ain’t blaming you
It was all my doing
Hence, I unstring myself from you
The metaphorical chain
Wrapping the two of us together
Is no more there
And I’m finally free to do me
Finally free to reach for the stars
Finally free to restart my journey
Into the unknown
Begin all over again
From where it last ended.
