In The Sea
By Vedant Dhanjal
The shining tips of the waves
Seemed like a billion lamps
Floating on the sea in that
Burning December sun.
The nose of the ferry
Was aiming the clouds,
The clouds that seemed
Like a masterpiece.
There were ships, docks,
And repair yards
Thrown randomly in the water.
The winds,
Unceasing and brilliant,
Romanced my face,
My skin, and my soul.
The water on the left was
Blue and vast.
The water on the right was
Golden and reachable.
There was silence
In the voice of that sea.
The ferry bounced
And danced in the
Arms of the waves,
On a song which had
No rhythm or melody.
With unblinking eyes,
I sat in the corner,
Cherishing that volcano
Of leisure erupting somewhere
Deep inside that chest of mine.
The ferry was heading towards
Ross in the south-eastern part
Of my country, almost the end.
I was far, just too far
From my flat in the Capital.
I had no friends there,
Didn’t know anyone,
Yet I didn’t feel alone.
There was a sea unending,
Unfathomable like me.
There was calm in the air,
Just like the way I am.
Despite the plenty time
To analyse those past years,
My mind was strangely empty,
But my heart was peculiarly full.
I swayed with the waves,
Talked with the winds;
I hummed with the ferry,
And smiled with that sea.
