I feel everything in the depths of my heart

But when I dig deeper I feel it's a sham

Like I'm pretending to feel just to blend in

or please the crowd or cover the fact

that I don't really feel anything.

Taking notes to read between the lines

Reading prose to feed me some lies

Weaving conversations in my head

to sound natural and get ahead of time

And it still ends up sounding synthetic

Even when I listen, like some prenotions

embedded.

The thirst for authenticity left me hay wired

Just be yourself is a blank statement when

You don't even know who you are

Am I someone who is playing alone or afraid of

being noticed and yet screaming for someone

to come along and save me

I don't know where I'll end up

But this show that I've put up

Had me putting up with a stranger in my skin

While the real me suffer clean clothes.
