If Only I Could Take It Back

She sits near the front porch wondering

If her feelings got the best of her

The memory of her daughter that was once shimmering Is now fogged up and a blur

Been 5 years since the last call

Words spoken that weren’t meant

An apology no matter how big or small

Can no longer undo that event

She’s overwhelmed from the guilt of her actions As her hair’s turning gray and she’s all alone She’s only left with her thoughts and past interactions With her daughter on the phone

She longs to rekindle with her own blood and soul But she wonders if she has let bygones be bygones A poor mother’s wish to make her heart whole Before she drowns in the horizon
