If I Die Today

Out again in the void of Life-

I have come to roam.

left all the pleasures and treasures and treasures behind,

taken refuge in Grief’s dome.

Of all the places I’ve seen,

this has the darkest of faces.

And though it might be home- to the brightest brains:

it is the darkest of places.

And to me it seems-this dome beams,

to all those who can grin-

through the tears-the thoughts-the rain-

through the burden of their sins.

Here reside ones who mourn-who walk

the quieter way of Life.

And know they’ll die of Grief-

the shattered Death’s wife.

And yet of all the pages, here I’ve written

this seems the most insane.

For I know I carve my own killer-

in this lonely Grief’s den.

For all my neighbors in this grievous world- are not strangers-yet

I know they won’t cry- sigh or- say

the fewest words of loss and grief-

if my body is to fray…

If I die here to-day.
