I Was Afraid To Die
By Sheryn Anand
I told him one day,
I was afraid to die,
To leave the stage,
Before I was the bride,
To watch the sun
Set on my light.
And he stretched a hand,
And touched my cheek,
A tear washed in
All his grace and grief.
“Keep running to the edge,
Like you can’t see the drop,
Because when you do fall,
Your soul doesn’t stop.”
“It skips through the lush green,
And golden chimes of heaven,
All the pain seeps out,
And the peace is breathed in.”
“Your cup will be filled,
Too full to miss,
Or remember the small joys,
Of the trifle life you didn’t live.”
“But the ones you leave behind,
Those you don’t take along,
Their lives will crumble down,
Like crystals on the rocks.”
“Their nightmares will resonate
Your empty, haunting silence,
And their screams will rip
Their own souls to shreds.”
“The world without you,
Would be a raging, draining furnace,
While you’re flying in the clouds,
In blissful ignorance.”
