I Want To Listen

I really do

Please don’t go

Just wait for a minute more

I will come open the door

I’m making space for you

I am cleaning it all up

My apartment, my mind

Its last minute I know

I am almost there though

Don’t worry, I pushed things under the carpet

Stuffed the cupboard

Swop the dust under the bed

Put bedsheets over the clumsy cot

Clumsy thoughts

But I’ll make space for you

Enough for you to sit and speak

I want to listen you know

I’ll make some space for sure

Don’t ring the bell again

I will panic a bit more

I know you can hear me

Just stay there for a bit more

I am cleaning myself up now

Wearing cleaner clothes

I’ll just pick the cleanest ones

Out of those lying around

So it won’t take long I promise

I want to look average

Nothing to grab attention

After all it’s about you… our meeting

Even though short

Hopefully not too formal

But I want to let you speak

And let me listen

I’ll open windows of this dusty place

To finally let in some sun and air

I’m glad you had a minute more to spare

Just… just wait

I want to show you that I care

Heaps of books lie here

I will keep them as is

So you think I read

The table is a mess too

I’ll throw in some paint and brushes

It would be artistic mess to you

So you know I exercise creatively too

Now all there is to do, is to let you in

First, a little side hug maybe followed by a grin

Switch on the fan, Offer you a seat,

Ask you for water, while you look around and I repeat

When you nod sideways for a no

I’d say I’ll get the Kharvas from yesterday no

I know you wouldn’t say no to that and

In seconds I’d place a little plate in your hand

As I finally get down to sit

And look at you eat a bit

You’d look up just in between

To ask ‘how have you been?’

I’d then take a brief breath in

And look around my place barely cleaned

Breathe out to look back again at you

‘Great, great! but today, tell me all about you’

I want to do this all

I’ve prepared it all

The glass of water, the Kharvas and all

Just another moment, I have it all resolved

Just another moment to appear all resolved

please don’t go…please don’t go
