I Thought You’d Choose Me

I thought you’d choose me,

Not because you promised-

But because of the way you smile

At me, it’s different somehow.

I thought you’d choose me,

Not because you told me you would-

But because of the way you speak of me

The way your voice becomes softer.

I thought you’d choose me,

I thought that because of the way-

You blush every time I smile

You look down and grin all goofy.

I thought you’d choose me,

Because maybe, just maybe-

I saw it in your eyes

One too many times.
