I Never Stopped You

I held on to you with a string so thin,

Weathered by your breath and your poison touch,

And the scars it cut in my bare fist,

I thought was a picture painted by love.

There was dirt in the water,

Fouled by your beliefs,

But I refused to leave the stream,

Blinded by the fear of grief.

No more could I see through,

My own shield of smiles,

You picked apart and moulded me,

Into someone I couldn't recognise.

And I never stopped you,

Defended every nail you punched through me,

So I could believe in good things,

So I could protect my heart from bleeding.

I never stopped you,

I never stopped you.....
