I Ask the Better Nature of Man: What of the Thickets?

Rain down from high, hallowed nature of Man,

your voice shall lend this world a new debtor,

sowed in Thickets and whispers, in tilled land.

Listen: the earth demands preserving hand.

Thickets are waste, nought but crawling leather.

Rain down from high, hallowed nature of Man.

Pray for rain when Thicket spirits demand.

Then draft brochures that reap sunset tremor

sowed by Thickets and whispers, in tilled land.

Then remove the Thickets to grind their sand

to glass homes refracting reframed slaughter.

Rain down from high, hallowed nature of Man.

Place monuments before the rivers can

gather the carcasses of their authors,

sowed in Thickets and whispers, in tilled land.

Nature is song, to us few who command.

Sing of Thickets bled of son and daughter.

Rain down from high, hollow nature of Man,

sowed by Thickets, who whispered, in tilled land.
