I Am a Poet

I am a poet.

I am not merely human.

I am a being unknown to man,

filled with immense emotion,

locked away inside

growing with every heartbeat.

When you hear the word poet,

the words that often come to mind are

heartbreak, sorrow, and despair.

Maybe we are.

Maybe we aren’t.

Maybe we are both darkness and light

combined.

Our voices always fell on deaf ears,

as if our lips were sealed shut,

stitched in ways that could never be undone.

We screamed and bled,

trying to tear them away,

but deep down,

we knew it was of no use.

So we picked up our pens.

We poured our hearts and souls into words,

words that haunted our every being

until they could no longer be contained.

But we are not all darkness.

We are also the light

that notices the magic

and wonder of this world

amid the chaos.

The world, our experiences,

and the people we meet become

our muse.

We create beautiful, dark, colourful music

with our poetry.

People who cannot find the words

find them through us.

They feel at ease and understood.

They realise they are not alone in their silence.

We are poets.

We are not merely human.

We are light and darkness combined.
