I Am A Bird.
By Vijay Tita
I am the melody of nature,
The beauty of the blue sky,
A friend of wind in all weather,
I am a bird
Who awakes the tree from its slumber.
But all alone in my little world
I ponder with the crestfallen eyes.
If I am born to fly, where is my sky?
For I am a bird
Whose world’s confined.
Can you hear my despondent call?
They say I sing in joy,
But never will they know
Those are the plaintive notes.
For I am a bird
Whose heart is unheard.
Prisoned in this narrow cage
At times, beating the bars
With my broken beak, I burst in rage.
Why am I sentenced to solitude?
For I am a bird
And the nature is my refuge.
Fluttering my wilted wings
Across the walls of the iron cell
I wonder at my own existence.
Is freedom to fly a crime?
For I am a bird whose freedom
Is victimized for the joy of mankind.
Like children I am a free spirit with many dreams,
Born to sing, flying over the distant hills,
Above the clouds, soaring with friends in flocks
Making patterns of victory with joy in the sky.
I am a bird with an urge
Free me before I forget how to fly.
