Human Connection.

I would say I don't like simplicity

because nothing about it astonished me.

I would say I delight in idiosyncrasy,

things that were out of the ordinary.

Because I craved something in my body

that could get my heart racing, an adrenaline rush.

Though I had nowhere to be, no competition to vie,

If my feet were running and my cheeks flushed,

at least that meant I'm alive and still me.

But that was before the flowers in me bloomed;

The realization struck me like a clap of thunder,

amidst the caliginous sky which sundered.

Because while all of that may be true,

some things are just exceptionally sacred.

Like the way you and I are bonded,

tied with a thread of infinite meaningful words,

no matter the language because you know this goes far beyond,

all the lines of mistranslations blurred.

Something as intricate as friendship and affection.

Something as appreciable as human connection.

Isn't it wonderful how we all just belong together?

How we look at the world in different ways

but our eyes are made of the same stardust?

My problems may not seem as big to others

as they do to me and theirs may not to me,

but our tears are of the same chemicals.

When we fall in love, we all yearn to hear those three words

and wish to keep them safe forever.

Locked in somewhere far away from the eyes of the hunter

lest we end up becoming the prey.

When we fall apart, we shatter and get buried in our own heartbreak,

all at the same graveyard.

Getting down on our knees and breaking down,

all of our anguish and wounds solely lie.

I used to say I don't like simplicity,

because nothing about it astounded me.

But caring, touching and loving comes so naturally

that I ascertained it can't be a mere coincidence.

The universe has one or two tricks of its own,

as though some sort of alchemy,

because like the pieces of a puzzle

our fingers fit just right when we hold hands.

So be it - something as simple, beautiful and quiet

as human connection that no one understands,

is what makes me feel alive the most.
