Human
By Deeti Gupta
Do you remember when the world was cold?
And dogs were still wolves that ravaged?
When the wheel didn't exist,
And neither did speech,
Since then, so far we have reached.
Twisting and turning through the paths of time;
Winning and losing,
Correcting and erring,
Repeating someone else's mistakes,
A continuous cycle that never breaks.
And yet, through all the centuries
We've never changed;
We made and we broke,
We cried and we joked,
We screamed to be remembered.
We searched for a meaning,
We fought to survive,
The rich had their names
Engraved in time.
The poor engraved them
On the barks of trees,
And wrote them from chalk or in sand:
History is not always grand.
But maybe your inscription will stay on the wall
Covered by ashes of time.
Maybe your ordinary life
Will be unique and rare,
Perhaps, history will actually care.
The wind may carry your name,
Dozens of curious minds you could tame,
Your life will not remain your own;
Is it not better to be forgotten, then?
To live your own life and be unknown?
