Human
By Shashwat Nagar
You need to think,
You need to feel,
You need to move on,
You need to heal,
Because one day, you never know,
It’s game over, end of the show,
It’s okay to cry, okay to feel low,
Forgive and forget, learn to let go.
Life goes on, it goes by fast,
So live everyday like it’s your last,
You’ll look back on your life, when you grow old,
Hair of silver, memories made of gold.
It’s fine, It won’t matter 10 years from now,
Is what I tell myself when I can’t describe how,
I feel, I feel nothing at all,
Or is it everything crumbling down like a wall ?
Everyone that has been born, will die one day,
Doesn’t that mean my life has no value anyway ?
Yes it does, is what everyone would say,
Because I am human, and a human is what I’ll stay.
Ideals, morales, principles and values,
Goodbyes, sorries, greetings and thank yous,
Are what we’ve been taught, what we follow,
We say we’re united, but we’re all hollow.
To expect nothing, is to expect everything,
To be nice, means to sacrifice,
To be bold, I have been told,
I have to help people, even if it means paying the ultimate price.
We lie, we deceive, we kill, we hunt,
Humanity takes an action and humanity bears its brunt.
What even are we ? Being human ? What does it entail ?
Every single day I try to answer that, and every single day, I fail.
Satan was chosen, and cupid was left behind,
Humanity couldn’t see, for love is blind,
Absorbed in its illusion, dealing with its confusion,
We made our biggest enemy, in our own kind.
So make a choice, or make no choice at all,
To be human or not to be human, or answer the devil’s call.
Lose your conscience, sell your soul,
Devour the world as we know it, devour it whole.
What is a human, is it a demon ?
Wrong, it is deadlier than one.
The sweetest tongue and the kindest eyes,
The softest hair, and the brightest smiles,
No horns to warn you,
No sharp fangs that show,
Is it human or a killer ? You will never know.
A suit of white and a hat on their head,
And before you know it, you are dead.
“Everyone that has been born, will die one day”
I’ve said that before,
But in circumstances like these, do you even want to be alive anymore ?
Rapes, murders, homicides, can you even keep track ?
We are worse than wolves, we hunt in our own pack.
Society brainwashes you to think we’re free,
Think a 100 years into the future and you’ll see what the world is really going to be.
Nationality, caste, race and religion,
Are what we created by ourselves, our very own prison.
So what about that freedom and what about that equality?
No one cares ? That’s what I thought,
Why ?
Because we are humanity.
What do we possess that animals don’t ?
Emotions. We have the ability to think, and feel.
We can make dreams come true and ideas come real.
So what did we do with our blessings, is what you inquire ?
The obvious thing to do, of course, create weapons of mass destruction that we supposedly “require”.
But why would we do such a thing ?
Is what I think about every night and every morning,
Are we really “human” again, I ask,
The answer is simple, just take off your mask.
We are not humans, we are the devil indeed,
Evil is rooted in our blood, evil is what we breed,
Crooked fingers of lust, eyes of greed,
Purification, is what we need.
From the tales of new and the tales of old,
Humans are the most heroic creatures, is what you’ll be told,
With our spears of vengeance and our swords of justice,
We changed the world, and a new era came to unfold.
But there was a flaw, and the world heard a crack,
Our buildings looked more colourful, but our hearts had become black.
Saturated with hate, overflowing with corruption,
Humanity paved the way to its own destruction.
We started to move, we started to separate,
Adapted, evolved and learned to discriminate,
This very planet, that we once sought to rejuvenate,
Began to crumble under humanity’s own weight.
I can keep going on and we would get nowhere,
This needs to end, or so I declare
So before I go mad or lose my sanity,
Let me tell you one last thing about humanity.
We loot and steal, burn and plunder,
Destroy the world like roaring thunder,
But our next generation ? We teach,
“Violence is a sin, you must be kind” we preach.
But if the truth is cruel,
And lies are kind,
Then kindness must be a lie too,
Keep that in mind
Long live humanity !
